( R )-2,3-o-isopropylidene-glyceraldehyde is used as the intermediate of Gemcitabine.
Gemcitabine is a pyrimidine nucleotide analogue, which belongs to anti metabolic anticancer drugs. It can prevent the progress of DNA synthesis in a certain period, that is, S-phase. It has the characteristics of wide anticancer spectrum, unique mechanism of action, low toxicity, no cross resistance with other chemotherapeutic drugs and no superposition of toxicity.
